THE IMPORTANCE OF USING SUNSCREEN

Do you know what consequences excessive sun exposure has on the skin?

Sun is essential to life. In small doses, it has a beneficial effect on:

  • Mood: The sun can be an excellent remedy for certain forms of seasonal depression.

  • The synthesis of vitamin D, which is essential to fix calcium in our bones.

However, in intense doses, the sun can also be dangerous. Generating the short- and long-term impact the sun can have, from sunburn, sun allergies and acne to premature skin aging and increased risk of skin cancer.

Fortunately, the right sunscreen can significantly reduce the risk of sunburn and future skin cancer for you and your family. Sunscreen contains filters sunscreens that absorb the energy of UV rays to prevent them from penetrating the skin and causing damage. Make sure your sunscreen contains high UVB protection, it's important.

The sun emits different types of radiation, including visible light, infrared (IR) radiation, and ultraviolet (UV) radiation. UV radiation is classified into three main types: Ultraviolet A (UVA) Ultraviolet B (UVB).

UVA rays alter the main internal components of the skin, such as collagen and elastin fibers. Over time, exposure to the sun causes thinning and hollowing of the skin, leading to a loss of volume and elasticity, as well as the appearance of accentuated wrinkles. UVB rays also stimulate irregular pigment production in the epidermis, leading to dark spots (also known as age spots) and yellowish skin. In general, these skin changes are known as photoaging.

To treat and prevent photoaging, your first resort is a daily broad-spectrum UVA-UVB face sunscreen from a renowned pharmaceutical brand.

Good to know: Even on a gray and rainy day, the skin is exposed to UV rays that will gradually cause the appearance of photoaging scars. To fully protect your skin, use a sunscreen every day, not just when the weather is hot and sunny.

Most melanomas can be prevented with the right UVA-UVB sunscreen. To reduce the risk of melanoma:

  • Babies and children under 3 years of age should not be exposed to direct sunlight and should use sunscreen even in the shade.

  • Children over the age of 3 should use sunscreen on exposed skin when in the sun, are encouraged to wear hats, sunglasses and protective clothing, and seek shade when the sun is strongest.

  • Sunscreen use and smart behaviors should continue throughout life.
